Ameobi: Toon team's spirit is just Sho strong

Byline: LEE RYDER

Accusations of problems behind the scenes have been rife this summer."It is not just about getting one over our rivals but also three huge points." The win took United's tally for the season to four points from two games having banked a draw with Arsenal last weekend."Derbies are tough. There are a lot emotions riding on them but you have to conceal them."It is about the team which can settle down in the atmosphere and take hold of the game.United emerged unbeaten yet again on Wearside having suffered just one loss in 31 years in the fixture and dented any hopes of Sunderland's first double over the Magpies since the 1966/67 season."We scored a great goal through Ryan and we had other chances as well. It was a fantastic day for us."SHOLA AMEOBI feels the victory at the Stadium of Light was a concise demonstration of the unity within the Newcastle United locker room. After the victory over the Black Cats, homegrown Academy product Ameobi added: "After last week's result we needed to build on it because it was against a good team in Arsenal."All the lads, even the ones who did not play, wanted to be here and were right behind us. That is very pleasing. However, Ameobi said team unity was there for all to see as each player backed each other up with interest in a game in which defeat sits uncomfortably among Toon fans.Even squad players such as Alan Smith still travelled with the squad as they put on a United front on Wearside.Ameobi put the win down to team spirit and told the Chronicle: "We have great togetherness."We did last season too, but it is not just the 11 who play.

"We scored a great goal through Ryan and we had other chances as well. It was a fantastic day for us."
